Expect Another Sparkling Summer on Sun Valley Ice
Figure skating in Sun Valley is a tradition that goes back 80 years. For decades, the resort’s Saturday night ice shows have brought the biggest names in the sport to Sun Valley ice for an audience experience that simply can’t be matched. Beneath the stars on a warm summer’s night, breathless audiences hear the scrape of blades on the ice, see the smiles on the skater’s faces, and feel the coolness of the rink at a venue that brings fans closer to the stars than perhaps anywhere else. It truly is a singular experience and one that defines a Sun Valley summer.
Ice shows are a decades-long tradition in Sun Valley bringing the brightest talent in figure skating to perform at an intimate venue under the stars
Tickets for the 2017 season of Sun Valley On Ice are on sale now, and you can start planning your summer around these not-to-be-missed shows. Many famous favorites will return, along with the fresh faces of numerous skaters to watch. Show Producer Scott Irvine said he is very excited about the season. “Sun Valley is one of the best places in the world to truly escape,” he said. “This is such an authentic resort and town, unlike anywhere else. This year’s Sun Valley On Ice productions will celebrate what makes this place the perfect getaway.”
Sun Valley loves Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White and they love coming to Sun Valley. The gorgeous team will headline on July 22
He continued, “We are welcoming back amazing headliners like 2017 U.S. bronze medalist and
2015 U.S. champion Jason Brown on August 12, the one-and-only Johnny Weir on September 2, and crowd favorites Olympic gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White on July 22. “The July 22 show is going to be over-the-top because it also coincides with our figure skating summer championships that bring hundreds of young skaters to Sun Valley for a weekend of competition and testing,” Scott said. “It’s going to be all about skating that weekend!”
Also returning to Sun Valley ice is the beautiful and powerful three-time U.S. National Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist Ashley Wagner, and the electrifying Nathan Chen. The audience is also sure to fall for a few faces new to Sun Valley, but very well known in the sport including Karen Chen and the dynamic dance team of Madison Chock and Evan Bates. “There will be many surprises and great up-and-comers throughout the summer,” Scott said.
The electrifying Jason Brown will entertain and delight audiences at the August 12 show
In addition to the headliners, Sun Valley’s amazingly talented core cast returns to entertain and delight. This year’s production will again be choreographed by Stephanee Grosscup which Scott called, “really exciting. Stephanee puts together a dynamic and very professional show.” All the skaters bring deep roots and a love for Sun Valley to the show.
This year, audiences will probably also notice an upgrade in the look of the production, courtesy of new lighting. “Last year we changed out half of the lighting cans for LED and the difference was really noticeable,” Scott said. “This summer, the other half will be changed. Where before we could work with limited light colors, now the choices will be limitless. This gives us a lot of control artistically to compliment music, choreography, and even costumes with just the right lighting design. People will love it. The whole package will create an experience like no other.”
The talented core cast of Sun Valley On Ice features soloists, dance teams, pairs skaters, and ensemble performers, making for one terrific show

Seating options for the shows are rinkside, on bleachers, or a dinner buffet and show combo on the deck of the Sun Valley Lodge Terrace.
