After this long, very snowy winter, hints of spring are a welcome sight even as the riding and skiing continue to be fantastic. And nothing says spring like the pastel colors, flowers, traditions, and treats of the Easter holiday. There is no more festive place to celebrate Easter and springtime than at the Sun Valley Village.
Come and celebrate Easter and spring at the Sun Valley Village with a special egg hunt and a visit from the bunny on April 14 This year, on Friday, April 14, Village shops and restaurants will again host
Après ski. Those two little words conjure up so much to look forward to. For some, après ski means simply grabbing a beer with friends once the lifts shut down and comparing notes on the best runs of the day (which are numerous right now thanks to feet of new snow this week!). For others, it may involve a long soak in the hot Lodge pool to help relax tired muscles. For many, though, après ski is all about music. There are countless ways to unwind to the sounds of live music after a day on the hill -- or cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or even holiday shopping for that matter.
This holiday season, the River Run Lodge is a great place to dance and enjoy après ski with some bands that dare you to stay seated
If you prefer your après ski in ski boots, you may want to make “Mahogany Ridge”, otherwise known as the watering hole at the River Run Lodge, your last run of the day. The impressive mahogany bar boasts a vibrant après scene and is the place to be for some amazing bands. Enjoy a cocktail (their Bloody Mary’s are famous) with friends around the fire pit as the day winds down and then head inside to dance, socialize and start the night out on a high note. Popular bands including The Barking Owls (Dec. 18), Shakewell (Dec. 19), Jeff Crosby and the Refugees (Dec. 23 and 24), Bread & Circus (Dec. 26), and Fox Street All-Stars (Dec. 28 and 29) perform from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. Andrew Sheppard makes sure the year ends on a high note when he plays River Run on December 30, also from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.
On the other side of the hill, there is a party going on at Warm Springs Lodge, too. This locals’ favorite spot features bands playing with Baldy as the backdrop all season long. The music happens between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., just in time for a late lunch that could easily run in to an après ski beverage or two. Put your feet up or get up and dance. In Sun Valley, anything goes! The bands that will entertain at Warm Springs during the holiday season are The Barking Owls (Dec. 20) and Bread & Circus (Dec. 27).
The Barking Owls will play both the River Run and Warm Springs sides of Baldy – the perfect ending to a perfect day on the mountain
Shakewell is sure to get you moving with their self proclaimed “tectonic” thumping funk, neo-soul and rock ‘n’ roll. The Barking Owls are “Indie folky, poppy rocky, alt-country, bluegrass new-grass, grunge-grass at its finest” and Bread & Circus is an original rock band from Boise. Jeff Crosby and the Refugees just released a new album and bring their signature “dusty, dreamy” sound to the mountain. The Fox Street All-Stars are on a tour with this stop highly anticipated by local fans and Andrew Sheppard is a local boy who has made it big.
If you prefer to shower or soak or change between your time on the mountain and your evening plans, or even if you don’t, head to the beautiful Duchin Lounge during the next few weeks to enjoy some great performers. The Duchin offers comfortable sofas to settle into, fireplaces, a welcoming bar, tasty bar food, and special live music that often lasts into the night. Kick back, enjoy the gorgeous space, and revel in a real Sun Valley experience. This evening, Brooks Hartell plays a special Duchin concert from 6:30 – 9 p.m. He returns on numerous dates throughout the month. The one-and-only Joe Fos also entertains at the Duchin beginning December 19.
Brooks Hartell will play the Duchin Room this December, setting a festive mood
This year, a special night is also planned at the Boiler Room in the Sun Valley Village. On December 23, dance lessons will be offered from 4:15 – 5:45 p.m. with a dance party to follow from 7 – 10 p.m. There is no entry charge and DJ Bruno, World Master Champion dancer Jena Thrasher, and a no host bar will make this a night to remember.
The Ram Restaurant dining experience is pretty special in general and is enhanced by the talents of Larry Harshbarger on the piano many nights from 6 – 9 p.m. His take on standards and favorites have people coming back year after year.
Enjoy the amazing snow and the amazing après ski!
