Just last week, a Saturday night dinner at the Ram Restaurant in Sun Valley Village seemed like a great idea. One member of our party was anxious to try the nightly $25 special of Hungarian Goulash, and an evening spent at the beautiful eatery, accompanied by live piano music, and noshing on delicious food sounded perfect. Our decision proved even more prescient when the server announced that the Ram was running a spring special: fondue for two (free!) with the purchase of any two entrees. It was a bubbling, gold prize at the end of the proverbial rainbow!

It is a fantasy for many couples planning their dream wedding. Friends and family arrive in Sun Valley from all over the country and the world, for an occasion unlike any other. Depending on the season, the days leading up to the "I do's" offer endless possibilities. Summer and fall vows might include organized hikes and bike rides, a morning of fly fishing, golf or a round of tennis. Winter nuptials offer guests the chance to enjoy downhill or cross country skiing, snowboarding on Baldy or Dollar's terrain park, snowshoeing, or a special ride on a horse-drawn sleigh. Any season is just right for a spa day for the bride and wedding party, the couple's family and even the groomsmen at the glorious Spa at Sun Valley. Endless possibilities exist to share this special place, creating a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
Sun Valley weddings are magical at every venue as these River Run Nuptials show
While many have married in Sun Valley style through the decades, the choice is now more popular than ever according to Megan Gergen, Wedding and Special Events Coordinator. Trends in nuptial planning emphasize the unique, the special, the non-cookie cutter event, and that is what Sun Valley does so perfectly. No matter if a couple envisions an intimate ceremony for 20 or a blowout party for 200, Sun Valley is the place for the perfect wedding.
As varied as the seasons are Sun Valley venues ideal for gatherings of any size and vision. The most popular spot for summer weddings is the rustic and charming Trail Creek Cabin and tents. "When I take a bride for a tour of this site, when we walk from the cabin and the gorgeous lawn an tent area come into view, the oohs and aahs begin immediately," Megan said. "Often, at that moment they are committed to that venue." River Run is also a beautiful and popular place to exchange vows, especially during the spring and fall. Both locations can handle groups of nearly any size and can be customized to create a truly one-of-a-kind party. Other choices depending on the season and the size of the group include the Sun Valley Club (winter only), Carol's Dollar Mountain Lodge, the Limelight Room at the Sun Valley Inn and even Roundhouse on Baldy though Megan said that is a more popular rehearsal dinner choice.
Trail Creek Cabin is a very popular venue for weddings, especially in the summer and fall. It is easy to see why
No matter where the happy couple chooses to create their lifelong memories, the scenery promises to be jaw dropping, the service spectacular and the venue truly unique. The addition of the Spa at Sun Valley is a huge draw to couples planning a Sun Valley wedding, too. "The Spa is focused on truly enhancing the wedding experience," Megan said. "We have heard so much great feedback about how pampered and special our wedding groups feel at the Spa."
While Sun Valley does not offer full-service wedding planning, Megan and her team work with brides and grooms to book the perfect venue and then coordinate with wedding professionals and vendors for every need -- flowers, photography, tabletops, even hair and nail service providers. Once the date is chosen, there is a wide and deep team of creative, consummate professionals to help make the couple's vision a reality.
Couples create lifelong memories for themselves and their guests by making Sun Valley the centerpiece of a wedding weekend
Many couples call as many as 16 months in advance of their intended date and Megan can book venues out 12 months. She strongly recommends the bride visit Sun Valley during the same season as her planned wedding to enjoy a food tasting and see the venue as it will be on her big day. Weddings take place year-round in Sun Valley and each season offers distinct and lovely possibilities.
"One of the best things about a wedding here is that Sun Valley can really be the focus of what is usually a long weekend," Megan said. "I always tell brides that the wedding is so much bigger than one day and guests can come here, enjoy all of our recreation, our wonderful town, terrific food and nightlife. We often hear from guests that they have fallen in love with Sun Valley at a wedding weekend and plan to return."
Sun Valley weddings are full of surprises. When you invite a hockey team, like I did, that surprise involved a few laps around Sun Valley's iconic outdoor rink during the reception
