Golf season in Sun Valley is in full swing, and the Resort is offering a special opportunity for women to get out onto the links, work on specifics of their game, and have a blast with friends new and old. One hour weekly lessons are being offered on the beautiful Elkhorn Golf Course beginning June 21 and running through July 26. If you’ve been waiting to take your golf game to the next level, now is the time!
Sun Valley is offering a special ladies-only clinic at the Elkhorn Golf Course,...
The wood and stone floors have been laid and cleaned to sparkle like stars. The beds have been made, the pillows have been fluffed, the lush robes have been hung in the guest rooms. The spa and hotel staffs have been trained. The new Lodge Pool and hot tub have been filled. The trees and flowers have been planted. The Duchin Lounge has been stocked, Gretchen’s ovens have been fired up and the pins have been set in the bowling alley.
The only thing that’s missing is you, the guest at the ski industry’s newest—and still original—four-season resort.
Opening night for the new Sun Valley Lodge is nearly upon us. The first guests will be arriving Monday afternoon, June 15th. To help prepare you for your first visit to the new Lodge, here’s a rundown of what guests and fans of Sun Valley can expect when they stay or stop by the new lodge for dinner, drinks, bowling, an ice show, a swim, a trip to the spa … the list goes on and on like a mountain bike run on Baldy.
A Grand Entrance—or Two
Upon approach, the Lodge setting has a much more grand and expansive feel. There are now two circular driveways, one enters the Lodge and the other enters the Spa. The landscaping has been re-done, including adding 150 varieties of bedding plants in all color ranges, 1,000 new shrubs, 200 new trees, such as blue spruce, dwarf Austrian pine, Rocky Mountain maples and aspen. The pond is larger, doubled in depth and includes a waterfall feature, and will once again be home to the swans.
The Lobby has been expanded and now reaches out 16-feet, overlooking the Ice Rink. All new hardwood covers the floors and great glass windows open up the entire Lobby, giving the space more natural light and an airy yet elegant feel.
The Spa at Sun Valley entrance greets guests with a hand-tiled granite sun, opening into an expansive two-story reception area that welcomes guests into the 20,000 square foot luxury spa, salon and state-of-the-art fitness facility.
New Looks for Sun Valley Favorites
The hallmarks of the Lodge are all still here, they’re just new, improved and will greatly improve the quality of guest experiences.
The Duchin Lounge now opens out into the Lobby with the bar in the back of the room and a new fireplace at the entry. The bar now includes a terrace with food and drink service overlooking the ice rink and Dollar Mountain in the background. The new Duchin Lounge will also now include continental breakfast service every morning. Food will continue to be served until midnight for late guest arrivals, or late-night cravings.
Gretchen’s Restaurant has big windows that open up the restaurant onto the Terrace and provide beautiful natural lighting. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served featuring all new menus from acclaimed Chef Derek Gallegos. The kitchen is now state-of-the-art as well, complete with an elevator for room service cart delivery.
The Bowling Alley has kept its retro charm but has been greatly expanded. The much larger facility now has six regulation length lanes, foosball and pool tables, more video games and a family-friendly food bar menu, featuring fried chicken, great burgers and hot dogs. It also will open much earlier, at 11 am, and is sure to be hit for birthday parties and other festive events.
The Sun Room above the Lobby has kept its cozy atmosphere and maintains its original function, and has been updated with a beautiful new rug.
The Lodge Pool has been expanded and now is accompanied by a hot tub and the Poolside Café. The café will feature both light and hearty fare, including a watermelon salad, spa Caesar, a hearty Lodge burger and wild shrimp tacos.
It’s All About the Details
What really separates and distinguishes the new Sun Valley Lodge are its attention to details. Absolute Black Granite from India has been used in the men’s bathroom and in the suite fireplaces. Abstract Red Granite from Brazil has been used in the couple’s treatment lounge and suite fireplaces. Daino Reale Granite from Italy has been used for the salon countertops and the women’s spa restroom vanity. Jerusalem Gold Limestone from Portugal has been used for the salon floor bath and Gretchen’s Restaurant.
Porto Beige Limestone from Portugal surrounds the pool. Rainforest Granite from India has been used for the Poolside Café and hallways. Cabinet Brown Limestone from Brazil has been used for the Duchin Lounge fireplace. Typhoon Bordeaux Granite from Brazil has been used for guest room vanities and suite bathroom walls. The Lobby fireplace and lobby terrace extension feature Magna Gold Granite from Brazil. And the poolside water feature and planter caps are made of jet mist grey granite.
While these details and improvements to the Lodge may sound impressive, they are even more so in person. But there’s only one way to find out. So be sure to book a stay or to plan a visit for dinner, drinks, a spa treatment or some bowling. You won’t be disappointed!
