The excitement in town is palpable and the countdown to the Great American Eclipse has begun in earnest. Everyone is buzzing about the solar eclipse that will take place on the morning of August 21 with Sun Valley in the path of totality. The actual eclipse will be brief, but the party is going to go on for days. Sun Valley recently announced that while much of the action on eclipse day will take place on Bald Mountain, there will be plenty of fun to be had at the Sun Valley Village, as well. Beginning at 9 a.m. on the 21st, grab your space on the lawn of the Sun Valley...
Austin Schumacher is all about fun; specifically making sure guests have the best time ever when they visit the Sun Valley Bowling Alley and Game Room. The manager of this retro gem located in the Sun Valley Lodge may not be the best bowler to ever throw a ball (though he says his game is improving), but he loves sharing this lifetime sport and the entire Bowling Alley experience with novices to experts. His bowling hero? Pete Weber, the colorful ‘bad boy’ of the PBA.
Manager Austin Schumacher wants you to love the Bowling Alley and Game Room as much as he does. He and his team will make sure you have a blast bowling, eating and playing games
Austin joined the Sun Valley team three years ago after receiving his college degree in Recreation and Tourism in North Dakota. After four years in the flatlands, this Boise native yearned to return to the mountains. “I started in Food and Beverage with Sun Valley,” he said, working throughout the company, most recently at Bald Mountain Pizza. He moved to the Bowling Center in April and said, “I was really excited for this new challenge. This is an amazing space and we want to make sure everyone enjoys all that we offer.”
And the Bowling Alley and Game Center offers a lot. In addition to six regulation bowling lanes with high tech scoring, the 50’s influenced room also boasts fun interactive video games, pool tables, foosball, great food and drinks (including wine and beer), and much more.
Bowling is fun for all ages and couples, families, and groups of friends all enjoy a few hours at the lanes
Austin said the food at the Bowling Alley is one of the best things about the experience. Nosh on favorites like Baja Shrimp Tacos, Blue Corn Nachos, even a Caesar salad between turns. Other guest favorites include the Idaho Potato Skins and their famous mac tots (tater tots smothered in mac and cheese sauce … they are as good as they sound). “We also are rumored to have the best burger on property,” Austin said. “If you like a classic, not-too-fancy burger, ours is amazing!”
New this week, guests will also be able to enjoy Bald Mountain Pizza pies while they play. Though the eatery has always delivered on demand to the Bowling Alley, Bald Mountain Pizza’s delicious, piping hot selections will now be part of the regular menu. “We think pizza is a great choice for groups who are enjoying the Bowling Alley,” Austin said. “Bowling and pizza just go together.”
Music is a big part of the bowling experience, too, and guests love the jukebox at the Bowling Alley. Modern technology has changed even this old fashioned favorite, though. As Austin explained, there is an app on smart phones that can control song choices. “You connect through wifi and can choose your music without leaving your lane,” he explained. Genius!
Enjoying a birthday party at the Bowling Alley is both memorable and trouble free. Let the pros at the center help with all the details to create a special event
The Bowling Alley is a favorite for parties and private events of all sorts. “This is a great place to celebrate, whether it is a child’s birthday party, a family reunion, or a work party,” Austin said. “We can cater an event for any group and it will be fun and memorable.” In fact, birthdays are made super easy at the Bowling Alley. Three party packages – basic, classic, and ultimate – offer many choices to throw a one-of-a-kind event. All include pizza and cupcakes and some even also including skating on the outdoor rink. Please call 208-622-2135 for more information on parties. For planning purposes, please note that the Bowling Alley is accepting holiday party reservations, too.
This fall, the Bowling Alley and Game Center also plans to host a bowling tournament for teams of four. “We had a small tournament in the spring for teams from local restaurants and bars and it was a huge hit” Austin said. “In October or November we will do it again and want to encourage people to come out during the slower season to have a fantastic time. Give us a call at 208-622-2191 for more information on this or anything Bowling Alley related.”
Games, both the old fashioned kind like pool and foosball, and new video favorites are part of the Bowling Alley experience
Next time you’re in the Bowling Alley say hi to Austin. He is there during open hours, Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. “This center is really special,” Austin said. “I never get tired of visitors coming down on the elevator and seeing the space for the first time. They are literally jaw-dropped.”
It’s always a party at the Bowling Alley and Game Center. Whether you roll gutter balls or strikes, it’s fun for the whole family. Check it out!
