Zach Crist was born into a family of passionate adventurers, in the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho. Growing up, he trained as a ski racer, battling his way onto the U.S. Ski Team at the age of 18. Zach competed on the World Cup circuit for 7 years, before finding a new career path in Ski Cross, where he won gold, silver, and bronze medals across 10 separate appearances at the Winter X Games. Still calling Sun Valley his home, Zach leads ski instruction at Sun Valley Resort, and continues to explore his hometown terrain with his family.
Reggie Crist is an Olympian and X Games Champion who grew up on the slopes of Bald Mountain. After 10 years as a member of the U.S. Ski Team, Reggie was a pioneering figure in the development of Ski Cross, becoming the first athlete to win at the X Games twice. Throughout his career, Reggie starred in several ski films, including 10 Warren Miller films. Reggie, along with his brother Zach Crist, now enjoying showing folks all their home town has to offer.
Kent Kreitler is a US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee. He grew up in Sun Valley and went on to win many Freeskiing titles worldwide, including US Nationals and several podiums at the World Championships for Big Mountain Skiing and an X-Games medal for Skier-X, in addition to skiing in countless ski films for the likes of Warren Miller, Teton Gravity Research and MSP Films.
Jake Moe arrived in Sun Valley for the 1968-1969 Winter season and joined the Ski Patrol team. After a few seasons, he decided to start a magazine and, in 1972, the first issue of Powder Magazine was published to rave reviews. In 2016, Jake Moe “retired” to Sun Valley, where he coached tennis for the Sun Valley Tennis Club. Today, he maintains involvement with Powder Magazine as contributing writer, often interviewing interesting and famous skiers.
Drew Merklinghaus came to Sun Valley in 1975 as an 18-year-old aspiring freestyle skier where the slopes of Baldy were the ideal training ground for mastering his craft. His career includes competing on the PFA World Trophy Tour then as a competitor on the World Cup with the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Drew appeared in ski films and then distinguished himself in the skiwear industry. Drew returned to Sun Valley in 2011, fulfilling his lifelong ambition to share his skills and passion for skiing as an instructor with the Sun Valley Ski and Ride School.
