Zach Crist was born into a family of passionate adventurers, in the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho. Growing up, he trained as a ski racer, battling his way onto the U.S. Ski Team at the age of 18. Zach competed on the World Cup circuit for 7 years, before finding a new career path in Ski Cross, where he won gold, silver, and bronze medals across 10 separate appearances at the Winter X Games. Still calling Sun Valley his home, Zach leads ski instruction at Sun Valley Resort, and continues to explore his hometown terrain with his family.
Reggie Crist is an Olympian and X Games Champion who grew up on the slopes of Bald Mountain. After 10 years as a member of the U.S. Ski Team, Reggie was a pioneering figure in the development of Ski Cross, becoming the first athlete to win at the X Games twice. Throughout his career, Reggie starred in several ski films, including 10 Warren Miller films. Reggie, along with his brother Zach Crist, now specializes in guided adventures in the Sawtooth Valley.
Kent Kreitler grew up on the flatlands of Kansas City, Missouri, but moved with his family to Sun Valley, Idaho at the age of 10, where his passion for mountain sports was forged. Kent is recognized as a pioneer in combining modern, aggressive big mountain skiing with park skiing styles, and for being the first skier to utilize stylist grabs. He received numerous accolades during his career, including being recognized by Powder Magazine as one of the “48 Skiers Who Shaped Our Sport.”
Jake Moe arrived in Sun Valley for the 1968-1969 Winter season and joined the Ski Patrol team. After a few seasons, he decided to start a magazine and, in 1972, the first issue of Powder Magazine was published to rave reviews. In 2016, Jake Moe “retired” to Sun Valley, where he coached tennis for the Sun Valley Tennis Club. Today, he maintains involvement with Powder Magazine as contributing writer, often interviewing interesting and famous skiers.
Drew Merklinghaus originally came to Sun Valley when he was an 18-year-old ski bum in 1975. Determined to become a professional skier, he competed professionally in the PFA World Trophy Tour, World Cup Freestyle competition, and as a member of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, becoming a national champion bump skier. Merklinghaus returned to Sun Valley after decades away, where he owns a ski apparel company and has been an instructor in the Sun Valley Ski & Ride School since 2014.
