Before you know it, the hills around Sun Valley will once again be alive with the sounds of music. The highly anticipated Sun Valley Summer Symphony season returns to the Sun Valley Pavilion (located adjacent to the Sun Valley Lodge) and the lawn beyond on July 24. For three wonderful summertime weeks, the finest musicians in the country will offer free concerts. It is one of the most highly anticipated cultural and social highlights of the year.
Guests and locals alike anticipate the Sun Valley Summer Symphony...
While skiers and boarders bid adieu to another season on Baldy last weekend, the crews at some of Sun Valley’s other famous terrain were busy at work.
Pre-season preparation is well under way at Sun Valley’s three golf courses: Trail Creek, White Clouds and Elkhorn. And after a rather nice winter, the courses are rounding into great shape with opening day planned before the end of the month, the Driving Range and Putting and Chipping Greens are now open.
“We’re close. Clean up is underway,” Jeff Petersen, Sun Valley’s director of golf said late last week.
Unlike the last few years, when winter snowfalls were a little light, this year’s solid season is good news for the local courses and shouldn’t delay openings very much.
“Having a good winter helps,” Jeff said, “The greens came through really well.”
As the snow subsides and the courses awaken from their winter naps, they will be opened nine holes at a time with the first rounds taking place on Trail Creek later this month.
Jeff recommends we all get back into the swing of the new season slowly. Instead of heading out there to grip it and rip it with drivers, Jeff advises golfers to get back into the game more gently.
“Start small, get your touch and feel going again and then work your way back up to bigger clubs,” Jeff said, adding that he and his team are “always here to help.”
As usual, Sun Valley will be offering terrific Stay and Play Packages all spring long. The Pro Shop at the Club House also has lots of great deals on the last season’s models and this year’s hot new gear and clothing.
“The spring golf packages, as far as getting a great deal on lodging and playing goes, that’s the way to do it,” Jeff said. “We want to get people excited about the new season.”
