Each year for the past 20 years, Sun Valley has kicked off summer with a focus on health, wellness, and fun at the Sun Valley Wellness Festival. Spanning the long Memorial Day weekend, this year from May 26 to 29, it is the perfect start to the season, inviting participants to think deeply and breathe deeply during a wide range of programming. There truly is something for everyone. The Sun Valley Wellness Festival was started in 1997 with the mission of inspiring people to live healthier lives. To that end, they bring to Sun Valley each year the best of the best across a mind boggling...
Skiing & Riding
The party is on this weekend on Bald Mountain and you won’t want to miss a minute! Starting Friday and continuing through late Sunday afternoon, celebrate the end of the skiing and riding season with great food, live music, friends and fun.
The end of the skiing and riding season on Baldy is a great time to celebrate and the party lasts all weekend
Party HQ is Warm Springs Lodge. Gather inside or on the deck to enjoy lunch or a snack (or one of their world famous cookies!), a full bar and great music. From 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Andrew Sheppard Band will perform live and we dare you not to get up and dance! Sheppard a singer-songwriter and a Hailey native, now splits his time between Idaho and Los Angeles. The former frontman of the Gypsy River Haunts, Sheppard now calls his band’s sound a “cockeyed medley of soulful country, honest rock ‘n’ roll, with an outlaw mentality.” He has played with Josh Ritter, Willie Watson of Old Crow Medicine Show, Shooter Jennings and Jason Isbell. His latest release Trouble After Midnight was released in August.
On Saturday, the fun continues when Tylor Bushman and Train Robbers play from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Warm Springs. Again, great food and beverages will keep everyone energized while this fantastic band rocks the house. This local singer-songwriter and his alternative country band have played to great acclaim all over Idaho. Other band members include Johnny Shoes (guitar, mandolin), Spike Coggins (banjo, harmonica) and Mike Rundle (drums, percussion).
Live music at Warm Springs is always a huge part of the end of season fun
The fun moves down the street Saturday afternoon when Apple’s Bar and Grill hosts an epic street party. Host-with-the-most and Apple’s owner Hank Minor will roast a pig and the restaurant will offer numerous specials all day. A live band starts at 3 p.m. and will keep the party going.
Favorite local band Old Death Whisper rounds out the weekend’s entertainment, playing at Warm Springs from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. The band describes itself as a “cocktail of dirty western roots music and country tinged parlor tunes. [We] love good old country and folk music of early America. Sea shanties, spaghetti westerns (which we realize are Italian), railroad songs, road movies, pulp, noir, punk and rock and roll are among some of [our] influences. The tunes have diversity and yet a common thread of the love for American music.” Band members J.R. “Rico” Hood, Kenton Mueller and Drew Tomseth consistently put on a first-class show.
Both locals and guests get into the fun vibe of closing weekend. Costumes are strongly encouraged
Al fresco dining, dancing and celebrating our amazing mountain culture all add up to an unforgettable weekend. Get out there to make your last turns of the season and have an amazing time.
Thanks Sun Valley for another epic season on the hill!
In case you haven’t quite gotten your fill by Sunday afternoon, there is one more day to enjoy playing in the snow. The last official day on Baldy is Monday, April 6. Warm Springs Lodge will be open and serving lunch and the Spring Series ski races will be wrapping up.
It was a great season. Be sure to ring it out in style!
