Skiing & Riding

It’s time to sign up for on-snow fun!

With temperatures in the high 70s and the trees in the Wood River Valley showing off their fall colors, it's hard to believe that winter is just around the corner. But cold weather, and the amazing snow sports season it ushers in, will be here before we know it. Now is the time to register little shredders for three great programs offered by the Sun Valley SnowSports School. All are popular and all fill up, so now is the time to make sure to secure a spot.

Kids and snow go together in Sun Valley. Now is the time to sign up little shredders for popular winter programs that build skills and encourage fun

The highly popular Sun Valley–Wood River FreeRide Team is now accepting enrollment. This 13-week program meets from December 13 through March 14 for 12 Saturdays and one Sunday. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the focus is on high quality, high-energy skill development and fun. For skiers and riders ages six through high school, FreeRide provides top coaching in a non-competitive environment. To qualify, skiers and riders need to be comfortable on Baldy's green runs. The session costs $475 and a Blaine County Season Pass is required.

The little ones will be all smiles whether they are just learning or on the track to greatness

For less experienced shredders, Spuds is back by popular demand. This proven program is offered on both Dollar and Baldy and caters to never-evers through lower intermediate skiers and riders. The emphasis for kindergartners through sixth graders if on skill building and love of the sport. Spuds meet Saturdays and Sundays and offer either morning or afternoon choices. Each session lasts for three consecutive weekends and participants may sign up for one session or all three. Morning clinics last from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoons run from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Session 1 begins January 3; session 2 begins January 24; session 3 begins February 21. Each six lessons cost $140. A session and lift ticket package run $285. A session and Dollar Season Pass is $330.

Whether it’s FreeRide, Spuds or LittleSpuds, there is a great program for every level skier or snowboarder

For the littlest enthusiasts, LittleSpuds is a fantastic choice. This wonderful program introduces children 3 - 5 years old to the fun of skiing. LittleSpuds meets on Dollar Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 pm to 3 pm for three consecutive weeks and kiddos must be potty trained and ready to learn! Session 1 begins December 2; session 2 begins January 6; sessions 3 starts January 27 and session 4 kicks off February 24. Six lessons cost $185 and include a Dollar Mountain Children's pass for lesson days.

Now is the time to start thinking snow!
