Time for Golf - Driving Range Opens

The early arrival of spring in the Northern Rockies is good news for golfers. The Driving Range, as well as the Practice Putting and Chipping Greens at Sun Valley officially open for the season April 1—and, no, this is not an April Fools joke!

While the pro shop keeps getting in this season’s newest and hottest merchandise daily, Jeff Petersen, Sun Valley’s director of golf, said they are hoping to “potentially and weather permitting” open both the Trail Creek and White Clouds courses and Putting Course by mid-April.

“This is very early,” Jeff said about the fact that Sun Valley is opening the driving range while there’s still solid skiing going on at Baldy. The exceptionally warm end to the winter and start of spring, means that golfers will be dusting off their clubs a little sooner than expected this year.

“Folks just need to keep an eye on the weather,” Jeff advised, saying that when it’s nice golfers should “come on down and knock the rust off their game.”

While Jeff and his team are busy getting the greens and fairways in order, the Driving Range, Putting and Chipping Greens are open daily, from 10am to 6pm. A small bucket of balls goes for just $4, and $8 for a large. Season passes are also now on sale. For more information, call the Pro Shop at 208.622.2251. It’s almost time for golf again in Sun Valley!

“Golf is a game in which you yell, ‘Fore,’ shoot six, and write down five.” –the late great, Paul Harvey

Just last week, a Saturday night dinner at the Ram Restaurant in Sun Valley Village seemed like a great idea. One member of our party was anxious to try the nightly $25 special of Hungarian Goulash, and an evening spent at the beautiful eatery, accompanied by live piano music, and noshing on delicious food sounded perfect. Our decision proved even more prescient when the server announced that the Ram was running a spring special: fondue for two (free!) with the purchase of any two entrees. It was a bubbling, gold prize at the end of the proverbial rainbow!
