This year, the highly anticipated keynote speaker at the Wellness Festival is Jewel, the singer, songwriter, storyteller, and survivor. She will speak not once, but three times over the course of the weekend. On Friday, May 27, Jewel will present with educator and author Kim John Payne about ‘Being the Human You Want to Be: Finding Your Own Voice.’ According to organizers, topics for this address include tuning in and being true to your own ‘true north’ rather than the ‘magnetic north’ imposed by external demands. Jewel returns to the stage at the gorgeous Sun Valley Pavilion that evening at 6 p.m. for her keynote address entitled ‘Never Broken: Songs are Only Half the Story.’ “She will discuss life, wellness, and personal growth, stories, lessons, moments of introspection from her book Never Broken: Songs are Only Half the Story,” according to Festival organizers. “Jewel will select songs throughout her address that highlight her story and lessons.” Then, she joins up with Kim John Payne once again on Saturday at 2 p.m. to talk about ‘How To Be Your Best When Your Kids are At Their Worst’ – perhaps my favorite title for any Festival event!

World-famous author and speaker Marianne Williamson brings her signature wisdom and inspiration to Sun Valley over Memorial Day weekend

Also headlining this year’s jam-packed weekend is Marianne Williamson.  Williamson is an internationally acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer and many are eagerly awaiting her appearance in Sun Valley.  She has written four No. 1 New York Times bestsellers and her book, A Return to Love, is considered a must-read of New Spirituality. She will give an address on ‘How to Live a Miraculous Life’ Sunday night at 7 p.m. at the Sun Valley Inn. She returns at 1:30 p.m. on Monday to delve into the topic, ‘Relationships as a Spiritual Journey.’

There is so much buzz around town about the appearance of MC YOGI at the Sun Valley Wellness Festival this year, and it’s easy to see why. “From headlining international music festivals to teaching some of the largest yoga classes in America, MC YOGI is widely becoming known as yoga’s modern day ambassador to the West,” according to Festival organizers. “MC YOGI’s music is inspired from India’s great epic myths, poems, and sacred texts such as the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita. He’s inspired by the life of Mahatma Ghandi and his message of peace … MC YOGI’s music blends his love and knowledge of yoga culture with hip hop, reggae, and electronic music. His beat-happy, Krishna-crazed music is moving from the yoga community to large, mainstream audiences.” MC YOGI will weave his magic at 9:30 a.m. during a presentation entitled ‘Only Love is Real’ on Saturday and again at 7 p.m. that night with a very special event, ‘MC Yogi: Only Love is Real World Tour’ at the Sun Valley Pavilion. He returns Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. for a workshop entitled “MC YOGI’s Mix tape.” People are pumped.

This year’s other featured speaker is David Whyte. The well-known author and poet offers a workshop at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 27, entitled ‘What to Remember When Waking: The Art of the Asking the Beautiful Question.’ On Saturday at 11:15 a.m., Whyte offers a special presentation, ‘Half a Shade Braver: The Foundations of a Courageous Life.’

The Festival schedule runs from morning ‘til evening on Friday through Sunday, with an opening ceremony on Thursday evening. From movement classes to presentations, to workshops and speakers, you have to delve into the offerings yourself to really understand the depth and breadth of the Festival and pick your favorite activities.

Another part of the complete wellness picture, focusing on health and the body, is the Experience Hall at the Sun Valley Inn. Free to the public, everyone is encouraged to stop by the Inn for great shopping at the Exhibit Hall, and massage, healing touch, energy work, and much more at the Hands-on Hall.

The Experience Hall is a great place to see new things, get a taste of the Festival, and meet some terrific people.

While you are enjoying this amazing festival, be sure to also get out and enjoy Sun Valley. Trailheads to wonderful hikes lie just across Sun Valley Road from the Lodge, and spread north, south, east and west. Bikes are for rent at Pete Lane’s, located in the Village, and a bike path is readily accessible. Between lectures, workshops and inspiration at the Festival, take time to breathe the mountain air and let the Sun Valley sun work its magic. For years, I considered my lengthy summer sojourns to Sun Valley an opportunity to regroup: to think, to get fit and healthy and to change up my normal routine for the better. In other words, I always considered my time here a wellness retreat. While many of my friends paid exorbitant prices to work out, eat well and get a little synthesis for the soul, I did everything they were doing and more, in my normal day-to-day activities. From mineral hot springs, to breathtaking hikes, from spa treatments to fresh, healthy food, Sun Valley’s clean air, sunshine and gorgeous scenery provided the ultimate reboot, addressing mind, body and soul.  And that was without the benefit of the Sun Valley Wellness Festival!  Sun Valley is special, spiritual place and the Festival offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
