Wrap up a Touch of Sun Valley

With the holidays just around the corner, shopping season has begun in earnest! In Sun Valley, gifting this year should include a memory gift for the stocking or under the tree: an item that reminds the recipient of a very special Sun Valley holiday each time he or she sees it.

There are choices galore for visitors and locals alike at every price point and for every age at Sun Valley's wonderful shops. Whether you are in the market for a pack of playing cards embossed with the Sun Valley logo and a picture of scenic Bald Mountain (approximately $9 at Sun Valley Signature Store in the Village), a beautiful and elegant collector edition of the coffee table book Sun Valley Pavilion (available at the River Run Brass Ranch for about $250), coasters, tea towels, glassware, plaid pajama pants, fleece … the options are almost limitless!

The work of local favorite artist Nancy Liston captures the true Sun Valley spirit and will be appreciated all year long

Though it is hard to pick, here are some of my favorites:

At the Signature Store, the work of painter Nancy Liston captures the Sun Valley holiday spirit perfectly. Right now, her wonderful series of ceramic platters, plates, mugs and ornaments depicting the iconic Red Barn on Sun Valley Road is ideal for everyone on your list. The artist said, "may [these pieces] remind you of great memories for years to come" which just about sums up what everyone hopes to accomplish with their gift choices. Be sure to stop by the store on December 18 from 3 – 7 p.m. to enjoy Liston's Trunk Show and see all her latest work.

The Signature Shop is filled with perfect stocking stuffers and hostess gifts that bring Sun Valley home

Also at the Signature Store, you will find darling napkins and dish towels specific to Sun Valley and lovely for any hostess or home. According to Signature's Jessica Blake, these items are flying off the shelves. She also loves a snowman making kit this year that comes in a burlap sack and is filled with everything needed to create the perfect snowman: a corn cob pipe, three purple buttons, two black eyes and a carrot nose. Just add snow!

There are also gifts perfect for golfers, oenophiles, lovers of specialty food items, children and everyone else on your list.

At the River Run Brass Ranch, Sun Valley specialties abound. According to the shop's Roberta Heinrich and Maggie Kohls, logo items are popular at every price point.

For the second year, Brass Ranch is carrying brightly colored graphic accessories that capture our mountain lifestyle. These include covers for iPads and mini iPads, phone cases and great mugs (I have bought four already). There are popular beanies, neck gators with a graphic of Baldy on them, and logo scarves available for a very reasonable $40. For a real treat for the woman in your life (or yourself), Alp-n-Rock is again offering fashion forward Sun Valley tops that go from the farmers' market to a night on the town.

Fun Sun Valley graphics can be found on mugs and all kinds of accessories at Brass Ranch

Both shops carry my absolute favorite find of the day: an oversized silk scarf featuring the mountain map of Baldy. Wear it, hang it, wrap it! It is the number one thing on Jessica's wish list and will be finding its way under my tree, as well.

This fabulous oversize silk scarf depicts Baldy and can be used in so many ways

When I was a part-time resident of Sun Valley, my dorm rooms, New York apartment, and later, my house on the east coast were filled with memories of Sun Valley. The sofa was strewn with Sun Valley pillows; my glasses featured the iconic sun; I wore a gold sun on my finger. I know I am far from alone in wanting the Sun Valley experience and the Sun Valley lifestyle to follow me wherever I go, even now that I live here.

Get out there to stuff those stockings, deck the halls and wrap those thoughtful gifts (better yet ask the very helpful and professional elves at all of Sun Valley's shops to do this for you). Giving a memory of Sun Valley will be a gift they appreciate throughout the year.

Colorful beanies are popular and one size fits most!

Need further incentive? Sun Valley Village is celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas with specials that begin on December 13 and last right through Christmas Eve.  Each day, there will be a 20% savings on selected gift items.
