Your Guide to Fall in Sun Valley

There’s never a shortage of things to do at Sun Valley, the original year-round mountain resort. As the seasons change, so do the adventurous itineraries. Though we may be most famous for our winters, there’s a perfect agenda for every season that will allow you to rediscover and explore a new side of our mountain resort.

For those who seek both mountainside adventure and resort relaxation, fall is an ideal time to escape to Sun Valley.

Cooler Temps on the Courts: Tennis & Pickleball

Let the competition heat up, not the forecast. Fall is the perfect time for friendly (or fierce) competitors to thrive.

Whether you've let the pickleball craze that's sweeping the nation sweep you up as well, or if a more classic game of tennis is your preferred serve, the Sun Valley Tennis & Pickleball Center has everything for pros and novices alike. Take a lesson, reserve a court, or join in a Pickleball Smash social; there's no shortage of fun served up on these courts this fall.

A Great Time to Giddy Up: Horseback Riding & Wagon Rides

Nothing says "great Western getaway" like a day spent traversing the mountain trails on horseback. There's no better time to get out into the hills than when there's cooler autumn air and fine fall foliage.

The Sun Valley Stables brings our Western heritage to life through unique guided trail rides and scenic wagon rides. Appreciate a new perspective on our beloved Bald Mountain when you saddle up and see the scenic trails and streams that surround us. Fall in love with our foliage and immerse yourself in the autumn hues that light up Baldy each fall.

Happy Trails: Bike the Wood River Trail

While our mountain biking trails are second to none (and lift-assisted access is still available through September 8th!), another great way to see the season's bounty on bike is from the Wood River Trail.

Loved by locals (who know it simply as "the bike path"), the Wood River Trail spans more than 20 miles surrounding the Sun Valley area and connects our resort to several communities and outdoor recreation sites across central Idaho. This trail is perfect for beginners or those looking for a more leisurely ride through the changing mountain scenery. Bike the trail and fall in love with our neighboring Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue communities.

Fair Skies on the Fairways: Golf at Sun Valley

With sunny skies and more mild temperatures, fall is the perfect time to get out and golf. Take in the beautiful autumn colors while spending a day on the greens at the Sun Valley golf courses, where there's an ideal itinerary for every style of golfer. Whether challenging your crew on the championship 18-hole Trail Creek course or taking in the 360-degree views from the 9-hole White Clouds course, you're sure to fall in love with the Wood River Valley with these spectacular course-wide views.

Cool Down & Kick Back: Relax with Resort Amenities

Perhaps the best part of every autumn escape to Sun Valley? The moments of peace and quiet. Here, you don't always need to be hiking the hills or hitting the courts to enjoy the majesty of fall around our mountain resort.

From the Sun Valley Lodge pool deck, you can take in the fall colors as you take a dip. At the Spa at Sun Valley, you can appreciate the new season with a renewing facial or a rejuvenating massage.

With a wide selection of accommodations, you can plan a stay that matches your style. Whether you fall in love with the private patios of our Cottages or fall for the seclusion of the Townhomes and Condos, Sun Valley makes it easy to relax and enjoy all the special experiences that come with time spent among the mountains during this quieter, peaceful season.

“Best of all he loved the fall, the leaves yellow on the cottonwoods. Leaves floating on the trout streams and above the hills. The high blue windless skies, now he will be a part of them forever.”

- Ernest Hemingway
